Greenock Morton Football Club and Estrella Football Group are pleased to announce that they have reached an agreement regarding a strategic investment in the club. The proposed transaction is now subject to approval by the Morton Club Together members. Should the proposal receive the required support, the definitive agreements will be signed immediately thereafter.

The agreement represents the beginning of a new chapter for one of Scotland's most historic football clubs. Founded in 1874 and owned by its members, Greenock Morton has been at the heart of its community for more than 150 years. Estrella Football Group will bring football expertise, modern operational knowledge and access to a growing European network of clubs that collaborate across sporting, commercial and digital development.

Building the future

Both Greenock Morton and Estrella Football Group recognise that building a financially healthy and sporting successful football club takes time, patience and disciplined decision-making. There are no shortcuts. The ambition is to create a club that can compete consistently for many years, rather than pursuing short-term success at the expense of its long-term future.

Both parties also recognise the current sporting reality. The team has endured a difficult start to the campaign in the Premier Sports Cup, with results falling below the standards that everyone associated with the club expects. At the same time, the club operates with one of the more modest budgets in the Championship, meaning that success cannot simply be bought. It must be earned through smart recruitment, hard work, creativity and a collective commitment to outperform expectations.

For that reason, the immediate focus will be on the football side of the club. Estrella Football Group has great respect for the current technical staff and playing squad, and the priority is to provide them with the support, resources and expertise needed to build the most competitive team possible within the club's financial realities. Recruitment will therefore be a key priority during this transfer window, to strengthen the squad where necessary while maintaining financial responsibility.

The first objective is clear: securing Greenock Morton's place in the Championship. Achieving that will provide the stable platform from which the longer-term plans can begin to be implemented.

Once that foundation has been secured, attention will increasingly turn towards strengthening every other aspect of the club. This includes improving the training and matchday facilities, further professionalising the organisation, expanding the club's commercial activities and creating new revenue streams. By building a stronger organisation both on and off the pitch, both parties intend to create the financial capacity needed to invest sustainably in sporting success for many years to come.
